The railroad museum near Promontory was the "Golden Spike Railroad Museum," operated by the Sons of Utah Pioneers from 1959-1979. They had a great assortment of standard gauge equipment including Union Pacific 2-8-0 No. 6264 and Southern Pacific 2-6-0 No. 1744, plus an assortment of passenger and freight equipment from various area railroads including the Bamberger and the Salt Lake, Garfield & Western. The locomotives, cars, and the depot went to the Wasatch Mountain Railway (Heber Creeper) in 1979-1980, and most was put back into operation with the exception of the UP 2-8-0. Just about all of it is now owned by the State of Nevada and is stored at Boulder City. The exception is SP 1744, which was restored by Rio Grande Pacific for its operation in New Orleans but is now for sale, and some of the interurban equipment which is at the Heber Valley Railroad and the Western Railway Musuem.
