I hope my photos dispell any myths that Magic Mountain never operated or had any rail service. It was more than a 1/4 mile of track, and thus once again, someone's poorly done research can become fact if repeated often enough.
Locally, the myth of the SN snowshed above Eureka being blown away in the first avalanche has become the bedrock of fact, when indeed San Juan County had to tear it down in about 1938, when the rails to Animas Forks were finally removed so they could move the county road to the roadbed. That's why some of us, who have suffered through many winters here, and have talked to people long gone, can help correct legends that were born of people like Josie Moore Crum, Lucius Beebe, and all those who copied their incomplete and imperfect research. This page from someone's history about Golden is like whipped cream--no substance.
