Those are some interesting photos, Steven. I understand that a Mr. C. V. Wood (who built Disneyland) built Magic Mountain and the park's management had many problems. Unlike Disneyland, it’s my understanding that each ride was owned and operated by a concessionaire. Someone once related a story how the railroad concessionaire at Magic Mountain got in a disagreement with management and essentially ran the equipment “into the ground,” so to speak and then walked away from it.
Mr. Wood built several other parks after Magic Mountain. Six Flags Over Texas was the only one to last. The Six Flags people were advised of the #42, but they got their motive power from Louisiana instead. Also, like at Magic Mountain, the original concept drawings of SFOT called for a railroad bridge over the front gate, but a cut and tunnel were more practical.
