We all hope that service to Whitehorse will be restored in the near future. It's unfortunate that the questionably viable service to Carcross is a first step toward that goal. People would take the train if they could go to Whitehorse and thus make air connections to continue their trip. I believe a excursion package like train from Skagway to Whitehorse, air to Fairbanks, then by train to Anchorage to rejoin the cruise, would find a viable market.
The tracks from Carcross to Whitehorse need substantial upgrading in places, and unfortunately the WP&YR does not have the revenue to make that upgrade at this time. Hopefully the Carcross excursions will be succesful enough to make the track upgrade to Whitehorse a viable option.
