K-28

September 01, 2000 09:45AM
One thing that hasn't been responded to is the tractive force of the K-28. It is very close to that of the K-27, being not quite 28,000 lbs TE (hence K-27 = 27,000 lbs , K-28 = 28,000 lbs, K-36 = 36,000 lbs, C-19 = 19,000 lbs, etc.). Even though the K-28 is a much larger locomotive in overall size and weight, the '27s have 40 inch drivers and the 28's have 44's which delivers less tractive force for weight on the drivers.
