Actully the 481 and the 497 were D&RGW property until 1981 when the line and equipment was sold to Mr.Bradshaw-I don't think they were ever fired up but stored in the roundhouse. So technically they weren't retired until 1981 from the Grande. I remember seeing a photo of the 473 pulling the one of the last trains from Chama to Durango it had coaches, freight cars, a deadheaded 481, and a caboose. The 481 was restored in 1981 and has been in service on the D&S ever since.
