If you want a good look in the Como roundhouse, you're about a week early. The roundhouse will be open for tours the following Saturday, September 8 as part of the Boreas Pass Railroad Day. The South Park Ranger District of the USDA Forest Service hosts this event the second Saturday of September every year. They'll have guides at the rotary snowplow display in Breckenridge, the section house on top of the pass and other sites along the line. In addition, roundhouse owner Bill Kazel, his son and Como historian Greg Kazel and I will be giving tours at the roundhouse. The festivities start at 10:00am and continue until around 4:00pm. If you stop by this weekend, look to see if someone is at the roundhouse and ask to look around. If nobody is at the roundhouse, you can sign a register at the Mercantile and get permission to enter the outer fance, but won't be able to get into the building.
