Back in 1979, I took my first 4 wheel drive trip on the Georgetown Divide and followed a forest road (forgot which one) into Pino Grande, of which there was the afformentioned hippie commune.
I have not been back there since 1992 and would like to go also. I have topo maps of area which I need to dust off. I belive you can get to south cable from Camino following most of the old right of way. Cable drive is the the old roadbed I think... I really need to go back there again.
Hey if any of you are interested, I have access to Leoni Meadows and Caldo on the old D&C line due to my employment with the church organization that owns the camp now located there and they have a 2' gauge railroad on the old mainline going some 4.5 miles towards Caldor.
I found a website with some recent pics of Mich-Cal. See below...
