Dale,
I've meanwhile checked my book and found my brain has worked despite the late hour. Edwin Culp is the author, the dad was Edward. The photo of the Prairie City depot is from about 1910. To the right of probably 3 station tracks is a quite dark two-story depot (?) building with a lighter roof, probably wood shingles. To the left is a barn-like long freight (?) shed with a clerestory running (almost) the full length; this building has a light color, white is conceivable. Of the other pictures in the book, you may like the tiny Dredge depot ...
