Hi Phil,
When I first saw the Jupiter back in Washington I was working for the Federal government. In my off time I spent many hours looking her over and admiring the classic Baldwin design. Back then, if someone had told me that I would ever wind up with a locomotive like it, and operate it through the Rocky Mountains, I would have called the guys with the Butterfly nets. Nevertheless, I guess the Jupiter in a way planted a seed of an idea in my head, so that years later when I saw Eureka all burned up, I at least had an idea of what it might look like. If I had not seen the Jupiter, I do not think that little bell would have gone off in my head when I saw Eureka. Such is the fickle finger of fate.
