Herb I respectfully disagree.
I present to you Gold Nugget ca 1958, from
Daveland.com That's a green jacket, domes and pumps. It is a very dark green.
I have an original slide from 1954 and it shows the same green, I don't have a slide scanner though. Note the red roof just like the color photos The train tracker posted. I believe KBF went along with the color pallet that 340 came with, regardless of who actually painted it.

From the photo you posted here is a close up of the headlight. I clearly see green body color, green chimney, black top, and black and gold scroll work.
