Great shots Jerry! Good to see the engine in Durango.
As mentioned on the forum previously, several locomotives had "backward" lettering thanks to the engineer side stencil being used on the fireman's side (or vise versa). Examples include 318 and 340 (shared tender?), 487, 497 and some K-28s in the '70s.
Knott's seems to be good at keeping things historically accurate (nice attention to detail on 41's rebuild, for example). No doubt the backward slant on 340's tender was applied for the same reason.
Now to open the can of worms. Regardless of whether it is the wrong shade, I really enjoy the green jacket on 340 and hope that Knott's decides to keep it. Unless of course they repaint it to better match the shade it wore in the pictures below. Also, I definitely believe that the roof of the cab was undoubtedly reddish-brown. These three pictures taken by three different photographers hint strongly to this. Thoughts?
