The Chevy 6 cylinder that was in Goose 6 when it left the RGS to Brinkerhoff had a casting date of Dec. 1950. As Jeff said the block casting number read it was a 235 CI motor. The motor was a "crate motor" bought from the Chevy dealer in Montrose Colo. I have the original purchase order from the RGS to the Chevy dealer. Why the motor was replaced when the RGS was about to shut down is not known. Have heard stories that the original Buick motor had frozen over the winter and the RGS replaced it so the scrapper could use it. The current 235 1956 motor was obtained from a junk yard and came out of a truck. No Powerglide. A 4 speed trans was behind the 1950 motor and is currently behind the 1956 motor. If I remember right the 1953 Powerglide equipped passenger cars were the first ones to have rod bearing inserts, prior to that they were babbitt beaters although fully oil pressured.
