I was up close and personal with the replacement Chevy 6 cylinder motor in Goose 6. We actually started 6 when the CRRM got it in 1985. It laid down a smoke screen and knocked badly. (prior owner Bob Shank Jr. ) He tried to start it in Hermosa, but was unable to. Tried to tell Stan Rhine what that original engine was, during proof reading of the 2nd Goose book revision, but it came out as a 216 Chevy six. (Chevy 6 cylinder engines have both a casting number and casting date cast on the block) A 1956 chevy six cylinder 235 was obtained from a salvage yard and rebuilt. ($1,800.00 worth) 1956 engine was installed along with the Chevy 4 speed manual trans. Goose 6 runs great, in fact it is the "hot rod" of the flock. Being lighter with the higher horsepower motor it has a higher top speed than the other two Geese. (we never have attempted to see what that top speed is) 6 went to Ridgway a couple of years ago and ran great. Too much info? 6 is on the schedule for some rebuilding at a future date.
