Advice needed on visiting Georgetown Loop

Clearly, this is the year to visit the GLRR, and time's growing short. Any suggestions from those in the know would be appreciated:
- What time of day (in late September) would be best for riding the train?
- How much time should I expect to spend there?
- How long will it take me to drive from there on down to Chama?
Any and all advice gratefully received.
