On busy weekends we have been running 2 trains to handle the excess passenger load. I do not know if we are running the "Extra Train" this coming weekend, but will almost certainly be doing so on Labor Day weekend, and when the fall colors hit.
The method of operation we use when operating 2 trains is a reverse schedule. The 2 trains will be going opposite directions (west to Silver Plume or east to Devil's Gate), and pass each other in the middle of the line at Hall Tunnel.
The extra only boards passengers at Silver Plume, and departs at about the same time that the regular train departs Devil's Gate Station at the opposite end of the line. This (usually) allows the Extra enough time to pull into the Hall Tunnel Passing Track to clear the main for the regular train. The schedule for the Extra depends on the number of reservations on the regular, and varies from day to day, but on a full day of 4 Extra runs (which we have done once, on August 13)
EXTRA TRAIN FROM SILVER PLUME
DEPARTS AT:
10:45am
12:10pm
1:35pm
3:00pm
NOTE~most days we have not run the 10:45, and start with either the 12:10 or 1:35
Before you ride, I would call the office in Georgetown and see if they can tell you whether they are running the Extra, and if so, what times.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. Hope this helps!
