New Mexico and especially northern New Mexico government has always been corrupt. I’ve lived here 45 years and seen it all. Cronyism, pay to play, embezzlement, etc. are all too common. State and local governments always seem to hire the most incompetent or ethically challenged for positions, likely due to crony associations. The ABQ TV station investigative reporters have a constant stream of government scandals to present to their viewers. One thing the state is not short of is money - oil and gas revenues pay for close to 50% of state government and treasury surpluses are in the multiple millions making distributions to local government entities for questionable projects common. I hope that the C&TS commissioners look into Campos tenure and audit his administration of funds for evidence of fraud.
