Mike, they do have to truck the equipment. I believe that the tracks between Golden and Silver Plume have been gone since the late 1930's.
I may be able to find a photo of mine from the time frame when the 40 first came back to Colorado. It spent some time in the CRRM roundhouse getting spruced up and repainted. The road trip from Alaska had left it pretty grimy, and I seem to remember at least one of the cab curtains was wind-beaten.
