Conductor identification

Greetings,

I'm seeking the name of the conductor in this photograph by John Gruber, and I'd be very grateful if anyone here can help. John took this as part of his assignment for Trains magazine in August 1967; this is the morning of the 29th in Chama, and I believe this is the conductor of the Durango-based crew. It's a phenomenal portrait of a railroader, and I'd love to know his name...and anything else anyone might know about him.

We've nearly finished processing John's negatives at the Center for Railroad Photography & Art, and they include more than 2,000 views from his trips to the narrow gauge. This one carries call number Gruber-07-39-094. John had been there at least four other times in the 1960s prior to the Trains assignment, and I suspect a few of the regular posters here appear in some of his photographs! It might be fun to figure that out.

I have been lurking here for the past several months, amazed time and again at the depth of knowledge and information available here. We have quite a bit of photography of the Rio Grande narrow gauge--and many other narrow gauge lines--in our collections at the Center, and it's wonderful to have the resource of this discussion board available to fill gaps in our knowledge, especially for the photographers who are no longer with us. We're working on a project to share more of their work, and I'd be very grateful for the opportunity to ask further questions here as they arise.
