Here are three John Gruber photographs from Antonito showing the westbound train and its entourage on August 28, 1967. These are CRP&A call numbers Gruber-07-38-135, Gruber-07-38-136, and Gruber-07-38-177. The last one was actually taken first, the telephoto (which I cropped a bit further) by the Red Devil coal loader with a VW Bug and someone in a cowboy hat. The two wide shots were taken a little later by the water tank (inoperable by then, right?) and show a couple more vehicles. Is that your Triumph at far left in the second one, Russ? I'm not sure about the two white cars.
Incidentally, the gap in the negative numbers is because John was shooting with two cameras, and we've processed his B&W negative by the roll. Russ, you mention the sharpness of his lenses. He got his first Nikon F in late 1959 or early 1960, and used that model exclusively until he went digital in 2010--half a century later! By 1967, he had at least two and maybe three camera bodies, and I think his lenses included a 28, 50, 85, and maybe even a 200 by then. He tended to shoot with a 28 on one body and an 85 on the other most of the time, quickly switching back and forth between those two.
