One of the existing concrete wall systems (similar to the interlocked wood) might be an option to consider. The appearance would be similar, especially if the supplier would dye the concrete used in shades within the gray/brown/black range.

Hadn't thought about composite - that might be a viable option too.

I would say as long as it has a similar appearance, is practical and doesn't break the budget, and performs as needed for decades to come - an acceptable compromise.
