As a twice-retired fire chief, it is good to learn about your fire suppression system. i recall that there was some opposition to my specifying a sprinkler system in the first fire station for the second fire department I started, as though fire stations don't burn. The building has a sprinkler system.
At the dedication of the station, one of the county commissioners commented about the fire hydrant in front of the building, put there to provide water to refill the tank on fire engines. The commissioner stated that he felt all county fire stations should have fire hydrants, a reasonable proposition. However, I had to comment that our station was the only one in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, that at the time was on a water system.
