Thanks for your responses John, Stewart, tgbcvr, guymonmd, and Tom. I am crediting the NGDF for giving me the incentive to re-live January 25, 1966. The next time I traveled in narrow gauge country was in a less precarious fashion - on the Memorial Day weekend RMRRC excursion. Here 483 has just passed the dirt road leading to the Whiplash and is crossing the small trestle that has now been replaced by a culvert. That dirt road (if it can be called a road) is just visible on the left side of the picture, and crosses the railroad under the fourth coach.
