497 brought 3 flat cars and 6 box cars loaded with lumber, as well as a string of empties, from Durango to Chama on December 5. 493 took those 9 lumber loads and 2 cabooses on a Cumbres turn in the morning. In the afternoon 493 took 9 lumber loads from the Skyline mill and 2 cabooses to Cumbres, continuing with 18 loads and 2 cabooses to Alamosa. 497 took 4 cars of pipe and 26 box cars of drill mud west, setting out 4 box cars of drill mud in Gato. Those 4 box cars triggered a chain of events that may be worth retelling (but not tonight).
