I do believe that the demonstrations we ( the 315/425 Locomotive have helped with in the past, has been just a short demo of the setup and a bit of banging on poles and a fruit or two.
For these demos we have been hooked directly behind the doghouse of OB on the short end of the car. This led to using a very short steam hose to the OB from 315.
I could be wrong, but believe that I'm not, In actual operations, the engine providing steam, would have been hooked to the other end of the car ( where the pile driving was demonstrated at), and a longer steam hose would have provided the OB. The pivot point of the entire driver is located at the short end of the car, over the trucks. And the reach for the demos was out past the other end of the car. If the pile driver was turned 180 degrees from where it was operated in the demos, the reach would be 15-20 feet out over the end of the car, in the demos this would be where 315 was located to provide steam.
This would easily reach out to the next bent location for driving...
