Hi, Marty.
Sorry for the repetitious question, but dang if I can recall what you may have said about this earlier.
When ex D&RGW coaches #306 and #320 were delivered to the Huckleberry from the Colorado RR Museum, I'm sure they were missing trucks.
#284 has a brand new set of trucks that were fabricated from replica parts made from copies of components from one the trucks under B-8, also at Golden.
What was done to provide trucks for #306 and #320? One of the posted pics shows #306 sporting trucks that look much like those being built by the D&S in Durango. As we have discussed here before, two of the three sets of trucks the D&RGW kept when these cars were retired in 1966 were used under the two new steel replacement cars built that year, #336 and #337.
The whereabouts of the third pair of trucks remains a mystery, they must have been kept as a spare set.
As a reminder to those who might not have seen earlier posts on this subject, in 1966, the last three remaining wood platform coaches were retired from the "Silverton" roster, and replaced with two new steel coaches. This left the roster with a 10 car set and an 11 car set which allowed the railroad to run two 11 car trains on those frequent occasions when a private car was chartered. Charted cars were run at least three to four times a week, sometimes every day in the peak of the season.
Here's a new question, the steps on #306 appear to have been replaced. When did this occur, and are #320's steps also replaced with a similar design?
Thanks,
Mike
