Eureka's boiler was actually in pretty good shape in spite of the fact it had been through a fire also.. I did have to remove and replace the front tube sheet and a few other minor things. However, it was generally in good shape. The boiler inspector for Arizona however, condemned Reno's boiler because it is lap seam. So is Eureka's. The Arizona inspector just had a bias against lap seam boilers and did not like them. However, that is not a condemning thing by itself. Indeed, Eureka's , Inyos, and other boilers have been operation just fine for 143 years. In fact, my experience has been that boiler inspectors like to be able to see the lap seam.to make sure it is safe.
