When I worked as a mechanical foreman BNSF, we had to brief every injury that happened (that got reported, at least..) to each crew on duty at the start of shift.
Most of the time, it was worthless, or humor at someone's misfortune (what do you mean the guy stabbed himself while pitting an avocado and fell down the stairway into the toilet on an SD40?)
But when it was serious - it really mattered. When any big injury or serious outcome occurred, the phones went away, there was no giggling - everyone was there to listen.
With the case of tourist railroads - the operations are so much smaller, fewer people - if there was a way for each organization to report out so that everyone could learn, I think it would be beneficial.
