About 9 or so years ago, I was riding from Chama to Antonito and 487 started heating up the right side journal bearing of the rear driver. The crew limped along as far as Big Horn Wye, stopping occasionally to cool it down. We had stopped at Sublette for a long time. But by the time we reached Big Horn, the crew felt it best to stop. #15, which was based in Antonito, was summoned out to rescue the train, and that was how we finally got into Antonito, about 7 PM! In the meantime, they jacked the weight off of the rear driver and 487 limped into Antonito under it's own power. The shop folks had a long night that night, as they needed 487 for the next day's train to Chama.
