My last post of the Death Valley Railroad:
There's a tremendous amount of neat pictures of the line and the town of Ryan at this website:
Desert Fog
Finally, no trip to the area would be complete without photos of Death Valley #2 at Furnace Creek:
Amazingly, of the three steam locomotives used on the DV RR, both 2-8-0's survive. #1 is in Carlsbad, NM and #2 rests just a few miles from where it once ran. In addition, the Death Valley Railcar survives and has been restored to operation by the Laws Museum. At Ryan, most of the 24" Baby Gauge railroad survives and the gas loco was recently restored.
Since my wife enjoyed Death Valley so much we're already planning a trip for next winter and plan to include at least a half day hiking the ROW and hope Ryan is open again for tours.
