Russo, thanks for posting those outstanding photos from March 17 and 18, 1964 by Tom Gildersleeve. On March 17, 493 brought a freight from Durango to Chama as shown in the first two photos. At the same time 480 and 484 were bringing a freight from Alamosa to Chama. On March 18, 484 took the westbound loads to Durango, while 493 and 480 made Cumbres turns as shown in the next three photos. Engineer Lira was in charge of 493 and engineer Ken Faucette was in charge of helper 480. I think Tom was lucky with the weather, because the next runs from Alamosa to Chama on March 23 were a 2 engine flanger spreader outfit followed by a 2 engine freight. That night there were 5 engines in Chama: 480, 487, 488, 492, and 498. I would have loved to be there, but I would imagine that the roads were terrible. I realize that this is all a lot of trivia, but I still find it fascinating. BTW, the road in the last photo by the Lake Lobato fill does not look in really good shape.
