The space in the Santa Fe's Belen roundhouse was pretty restricted, and did not leave an opportunity to get a photo of the huge 2-10-4 in one shot
Hanging out in the cab of 5021 one could try to imagine what it would have been like at the throttle as this monster engine was blasting up the long grade to the Abo Pass summit
After spending some time at the Belen round house we headed back to Las Cruces, arriving back at school less than 24 hours after we had left. No car problems or closed gas stations on the way back. It took me a while to live down my failure to verify the train situation on the narrow gauge before heading out. But this did not end our winter excursions to the narrow gauge. Two weeks later, on February 29, we were back in Chama to chase 480 and 484 to Cumbres The blue 1955 Chevy did not run out of gas and the muffler stayed put. I even happened to catch the blue '55 Chevy in a photo as the hostlers were turning 480 and 484 on the wye
I don't have enough photos of this trip to make up a decent photo story, so I will hold off until we can get Tom Koglin's color slides scanned by Russo Loco.
