Hey - the sound is OK! I loved this clip.
Don't get me wrong, I love coal fired steam. But equally I love someone skinning back the throttle on a diesel and getting her singing! Interestingly, the turbo is VERY audible and having a hard time getting ahead of the load. White smoke of a cold engine, and that turbo just - can't - get - enough - air to develop torque to feed the acceleration on the load on the drawbar.
Side wander: a diesel engine air system is very much like steam locomotive draft. You need to fuel the engine to run the turbo, because it's feeding on waste exhaust energy. If the governor is restricting fuel because not enough air? Then you get slow response of the air system. The fact that 107 isn't pouring Alco smoke means someone has the fuel governor and the generator governor 'tuned in' about to spec, because at 6500 feet you start to get some significant changes in the air system.
I'm also biased: I dislike the "GE Cough" in all forms. I prefer the throaty Alco hammer, but a screaming 645 comes in a close third.
Now a chassis with a 3512 in it.... Oh, wait. Those aren't set up for service yet!
