As we see today, 498 would end up becoming the supposed "parts source". I recall Earl Knoob saying something somewhere on the forum here about when the 37s arrived back in Durango the shop crew was almost immediately pulling parts off them to use for the other locomotives?
Would be neat to see 498 run again someday but at this point, it's just a boiler with a frame and drivers underneath, as well as a cab body and domes from what I've seen. So much has been stripped from it I highly doubt anyone would want to fabricate all of the missing pieces and even then we don't know what condition the boiler is in anyways.
