The virus is forcing all the railroads to be flexible and innovative to keep trains running. The D&S is restricted to 25% capacity on the Polar Express and Cascade Trains. The railroad had to move the North Pole sets from Event Park to the Durango yard. In order to accommodate the large numbers who want to ride, the railroad is running long trains (13 cars I think). As double heading is prohibited over the Animas River bridge, the D&S put an engine on each end of the train the one on the rear running in reverse. They will be using 481 and 482 when the first trains run Friday night. Tonight they tested the procedure with 493 on the rear of the outbound train.
I was in town taking care of some chores and only had my phone camera with me. This is the first time a coal fired engine has run in Durango since last February.
