I was pleasantly surprised visiting Gross-Gerungs in 2008 on business knowing nothing of the narrow gauge. The tracks were still there and although nothing was running I was told they still ran steam occasionally (some coverage has appeared on other forums).

If you go there is an ancient country inn not far down the road where you can get authentic Hasenpfeffer (peppered hare); a fun indulgence if like me you spent too much time watching Bugs Bunny as a kid.....
