We were in Gmund, and I think we got a meet with two NG trains, or maybe a SG. Been over a year since I edited the video.
Speaking of Czech steam, we tried to go there, but my brothers passport picture did not match him, and we were rejected at the border crossing. This after we had a 3-day visa, and bought the required Czech currency. The place was creepy with the no mans land, military police patrols with German Shepherds and so forth. Really a normal Iron Curtain feel for 1974!!!
Anyway our main focus in Austria was the Linz-Summerau line which was getting eventual electrification, with no poles yet on the northern end so we spent more time there with the Kriegloks (class 52 2-10-0's). But it was at Summerau that we got to see a Czech 4-8-2 Class 475 which crossed once or twice daily. There were escort police with the engines to keep the engine crew from defecting. Here are a few shots from the area.
1-Austrian 052 on the grade south of Summerau headed that way
2-4 Czech 475 class 4-8-2 at Summerau, with guard in cab, and departure
5 Greg next to the cab before departure. Dig those maroon corduroy pants!!!
