One other memory from 2000 was the climb out of Esquel to Nahuel Pan, I had a cab ride as all the others on board wanted pictures of the double-headed train more than I did. As we waited at the mid-point to set up for a run-by, the head brakeman hoisted himself into the cab (a Henschel) with a water kettle in hand. Everyone nodded and he put the kettle under the lowest try-cock valve and filled it with steaming water. He then produced the quintessential mate bowl and poured in the water, added the bombilla straw and passed it around for everyone to drink. Classic Argentina.
Sorry for not posting pictures yet, the site has a max size of 2.3M for photos and all of mine at 2.4M or bigger. I need to do some resizing!
