John Hern died the day before Thanksgiving last year. He was a multi-talented person who had interests in several areas besides his iron foundry and steam tug. He was also deeply into letterpress printing and type casting. His foundry was used by many of us trying to keep antique equipment going, and it was backed up by a full machine shop. I have not heard what is happening with his collections or the foundry--very sad loss. John and I killed a good bottle of bourbon one night in Rindge, NH while talking about typecasting back in 2000.
