Three of the six launches at WDW were steam powered, as well as two side wheelers, both of which are now gone, and the Liberty Belle which is still treading water on the track in Liberty Square. I guess shes narrow gauge...
The three launches are still used everyday in transportation service on Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon, but have been converted to diesel combustion. 74 HP Perkins 4 cylinders but one or two have experimental engines. Anyway, if you go visit the three steam powered ones have white hulls, and are named:
Adventurer
Explorer
Navigator
There are still three others:
Mariner
Seafarer
Voyager
These have blue hulls and were built a while after the original three, never undergoing steam power.
Rumor goes that the first three were converted because they werent fast enough, labor intensive (requiring a pilot and deckhand), and Walt had died so the real enthusiasm for keeping them around under steam power was gone.
