Thanks for looking this up Jim, and Jimmy for the original post. The narrow gauge passenger trains were fascinating, and I’m glad we still have the Silverton, C&TS and White Pass offering good sized runs. Always sorry I missed the 547 mile Newfoundland “Caribou”, especially as it didn’t end till 1969 and would have been a possibility. As I’ve posted before, narrow gauge dining cars and sleepers even.

PS afterthought. It’s funny how we get “used” to seeing later engine numbers like 340, 345 and 346 that were much photographed by Perry, Richardson etc. Engines like 341 and 344, not so much.
