Not mentioned yet is that during the layover between #15 & #315(The Shavano) in Salida it was possible to grab breakfast at the Hotel Monte Cristo. In fact you had about 3 hours, depending on how late you slept & when exactly the dining room opened.Not sure if it was still open for dinner when #316 came in but, if it was, you had plenty of time for that meal before #16 came through headed East too.
Also I do know that on the pre-Shavano, Salida-Montrose version of trains 315/316 there was still a News Butch as late as 1936, not sure if that service extended past the end of service to Montrose or not. For those who don't know, the News Butch was a guy who sold newspapers, souvenirs, snacks, etc. The sort of stuff that, post-war, you'd find for sale in most lounge cars but with a much more limited selection.
