Aha, the revamped Shavano only went as far west as Gunnison. I thought I’d seen photos of that two car passenger train at Cimarron into the 1940s, but I guess I’m wrong or it was considered a local train and certainly not the true Shavano (With parlor car, etc).
Lotsa folks like cab rides or the open cars, but I’m a hang out on the rear platform kinda guy. The Alamosa’s platform isn’t quite big enuf to get an actual chair out there, but you can on one (or two?) of the other Silverton train’s rear cars. Mike R, you may remember my wife and I on the Alamosa a year ago April. The seats across from us at the rear were no-shows, so you could move back, and we chatted trains all the way to Silverton and back
. In reading posts I’m pretty sure I’ve met a number of Forum members over the years (you Jerry at Shalona crossing for sure!), but haven’t been a member all that long.
Cheers,
Ralph
