Very interesting thread. On one of our first C&TS visits in the early 1970s, our return train stopped at the Whiplash to pick up a young teenaged boy and his very PO’d girlfriend. Seems he had taken her out dirt biking and they actually ran out of gas.

On one of our more recent trips we wanted just to get in to Osier from the highway. The road was great and obviously well travelled daily by the staff and suppliers to the lunch station. No rain to make the hairpins down to the station greasy, and the only holdup on the road was a HUGE flock of sheep being driven from somewhere to somewhere else. We didn’t need to worry about directions - just followed a commercial refrigeration repair van, figuring there was only one place he would be heading.

And even if chasing..... we’re always sure to ride at least one day, and a couple times when not able to ride have bought tickets anyway. Trains don’t run without financial support and it’s gratifying to know you’ve done that.
