A Senate Joint Resolution 04-024 has been introduced in the Colorado legislature asking the the Colorado Congressional delegation to seek a "National Historic Scenic Railway" designation from the the US Department of the Interior for the Cumbres operation. It was sponsored by Ents, S. Johnson, and Salazar. I'm not sure what the purpose of this is except there is language in the resolution seeking permanent protection for the railroad--I think it may be a necessary step in getting federal aid for the line. I can forward the text of the resolution to anyone who is interested. This bill was just introduced and still has to wind its way through the legislative process.
