I'm shooting from the hip of the mind here, but I find it interesting the under-story of the forest along the Hermosa Cliffs at Rockwood has recovered in such a short amount of time, but the "evergreens' have not. Having grown around Ponderosa in Arizona I was always under the impression that they were well guarded against fire, and I realize these may not be, but were they weakened due to the drought conditions? With the growth of the under-story well visible even last year, it was clear that a lot of the soils weren't sterilized in the fire as you see with a lot of high intensity fires it seems in the Southwest.
