Attached are two views of the fire area as seen from Rockwood. The burn area is all west of US Highway 550, Rockwood being east of the highway.
Part of the burn area is visable over the top of 1203 in both photos.
For the most part, many of the conifer trees (Ponderosa Pine, Douglas Fir and Englemann Spruce) were either burned or scorched. Some individual conifer trees did survive. The deciduous trees (Aspen and Gamble Oak) were burned, but both species are able to regenerate from their root systems. Most of the grass species, and other brush species also have the same ability to regrow from their root systems. In addition to the natural regrowth, the Forest Service also seeded the burn area. The conifer species are not able to recover from either excessive heat
or actual combustion of their needles.
I have had some exposure to the fire mitigation efforts and will post what I observed..
