There is definitely a way to determine if NC #2 boiler is in good shape, and that is to get the jacket off . pull the tubes, and do the inspection. I do not quite understand why OERM has not done this years ago. They have done a lot of work on Emma Nevada to be sure, but the boiler is the heart of the matter and I would think it would have priority. The OERM has turned the drivers and heavy work like that, but what is the point of having nice profile drivers if you are not going to run the locomotive.

Anyway, that is my thought on how I would approach getting NC 2 back in service. But then I'm just a backyard "hon yok" (whatever that means!) as Chris DeWitt used to refer to me when we were getting Eureka ready for Railfair 91.. Actually, the context in which Chris said this was that he was not going to be out done by a bunch of back yard hon yoks in getting the V&T #22 Inyo ready for Railfair 91. Well, he wasn't out done. Inyo was as beautiful as could be. But then Eureka didn'[t turn out shabby either. The point is, there is no reason OERM with all its talent , cannot get NC 2 inspected in over a year to the Roundup. I wish them the very best in getting it done! I would love to have Eureka run with Glenbrook and Emma Nevada.
