Remember, American Heritage exited the C&TS when they discovered that they couldn't make a profit with it. That was another "rental" situation. Ditto for the Texas State Railroad.
The problem is, how do you operate a profit making operation in a remote location? The museum operation that preceded American Heritage was being funded by a single wealthy donor who subsequently passed away. The sale to American Heritage was thought to be a lifeline to the museum but it seems that American Heritage never got a handle on the operation. Expensive events in 2018 at Durango resulted in layoff's at the MR.
