In the previous post I had walked about 200 feet beyond the spur I had found and was following the bulldozed fire break. At this point I saw a piece of wire rope:
This told me that logging had occurred in the area, but did not tell me if the grade went this far.
A few more feet and I found this:
It looks like part of a locomotive brake shoe.
I kept hiking another 100 feet or so and then finally saw emerging from the bladed area a hint of railroad grade:
Following what looked like the railroad grade I quickly found the remains of a tie:
At this point the railroad grade became so brushy that I had to hike up the slope to follow the grade. We're now about 700 feet from the base of the incline:
The railroad grade is down to our right.
